A Self-Care Gift List for HSPs

If there’s an HSP in your life, you may want to take a peek at my gift list. I definitely hope you look at it with yourself in mind too! Highly Sensitive People need to practice outstanding self-care & self-love. They are “must do’s” for us - “medicine” & food for our soul! I know which gifts I’m going to choose; how about you?

GIFT IDEAS (BY CATEGORY):

I had SO much fun creating this list! Obviously, some of the items will speak to you more than others. HSPs are lovers & givers. It’s important to remember to give to ourselves too! If you would like to add an idea to my list, please leave a comment below. That would be delightful!

  • The items marked with an asterisk* are gifts of scent. HSPs are often scent sensitive. If you know your HSP’s likes & dislikes, there shouldn’t be a problem.

  • I’ll provide links for some specific gifts! (I’m not an affiliate with/for any of the gift idea companies.)

  • I love to support local & independent artists, farmers’ markets & shops. I also understand that shopping from Amazon is easy-peasy (& safe during covid)!

  • High Sensitivity is aka Sensory Processing Sensitivity. To learn more about HSPs, please check out this blog post.

RELAXATION - meditation cushion (I have this one & LOVE it!), aromatherapy,* gift certificate for massage/pedicure/yoga class/reiki session. Tibetan singing bowls, an indoor water fountain (maybe this one - so zen & pretty?), oracle cards, crystals & gemstones.

Your kitty will most likely want to drink from your fountain! Maybe your doggie too?

If you live in or near San Diego, CA, you may want to check out The Divine Bubble on 30th & Adams Avenue or Amethyst Moon on La Mesa Blvd. They have beautiful gemstones, crystals, candles, cards & more (+ great customer service).

NOISE - earplugs (my absolute favorite ones - based on 35 years of experimentation; I buy mine at Target), noise canceling headphones (I hear that Bose headphones are outstanding), sound machine (YogaSleep dohm machine has been highly recommended to me)

SLEEP/BEDROOM - lovely sheets &/or pillowcases (maybe satin or flannel?), soft/special blanket, eye mask, room darkening shade

Also: if your life partner, traveling partner or roommate is someone who snores - good luck!! It’s beyond challenging for an HSP to comfortably sleep in the same vicinity as a snore-er. Earplugs & more are required to cope! Lots of patience too.

BATHROOM - epsom bath salts,* flameless candles (safe for kiddos & furry friends), body lotion* - possibly unscented & for sensitive skin. {I definitely recommend Aveda & L’Occitane products. I worked at L’Occitane in 2010; best hand cream ever. Am also a huge fan of their almond line. The scent is heavenly! Love their verbena line too.} Sprouts & Whole Foods have fab “lotions & potions” as well. Also: bath towels (these are AMAZING; I have 4 coral pink ones - so soft & lovely. Sally Meow approves of them too! They are thin towels - which I prefer. If you like thick, fluffy towels, these aren’t the choice for you. I love how well they wash & dry; I pop mine in the dryer for a few minutes & then air dry them. Energy saver.)

CREATIVE - journal (SO many from which to choose - another blog post topic, indeed!), calendar/planner (I love Katie Daisy items), art supplies (love these colored pens!), coloring book, puzzle, beautiful stationery, gift certificate to an independent bookstore or Amazon (most HSPs LOVE to read & learn; we’re deep thinkers & feelers!)

CLOTHING - can be a tough call gift-wise, but HSPs love soft & yummy fabrics; cozy slipper socks (these look so cute & comfy!), an uber soft (non scratchy) beanie if she’s a “beanie gal” (I LOVE beanies & have 3 “koloas.” For some reason, the one/color I linked is the softest.)

JEWELRY - Many HSPs are sensitive to certain metals & the heaviness (weight) of some jewelry. A jewelry gift can be tricky for an HSP unless you know her/him well.

MISCELLANEOUS - Chocolate (I fancy dark & See’s; yum!), a “handmade with love” tea & cookies gift basket, a string of soft, decorative indoor/outdoor lights (HSPs & florescent/bright lighting do not mix!). Plants, birdie feeder. a homemade giftie, a handcrafted coupon for something special, a treat for your HSP’s kitty, puppy, bunny or birdie (Sally loves Temptations’ savory salmon flavored treats!). A hula hoop or jump rope. Also: a getaway day FOR YOU - to the ocean or forest or ??? - to replenish your soul - maybe with a friend or maybe solo.

TECHNOLOGY - An app that supports peace of mind (like Calm), a sleep app (with nature sounds), an Audible membership, a sleep machine (like Dowdow), a high tech blanket (maybe a Luxome weighted blanket which calms anxiety). * Thank you, Christa & Sara & Teri, for your suggestions here! *

My gift recommendations help promote self-care & self-love which should be practiced daily. There are many other important dimensions to self-care, but I’ll save that topic for another day!

I feel a bit like Oprah - sharing some of my favorite things; lol. Hoping this gift list is helpful! Remember: you may gift yourself or someone you love “just because”! No special day required. As my beloved mom (Agnes May) always said: “Every day is special!” Amen. XO
